Over the summer of 2018, I began to develop a passion for
food. I experimented with different dishes keeping in mind
that these dishes were something that I could continue to
recreate once I moved back into the dorms. My semester
began and I moved back into the dorms, and so I could not
keep up with my hectic university schedule. Late nights and
9am to 5pm classes would keep me from preparing my own
fresh meals every day.
As I gradually moved on to instant foods and ordering
in, I realized that although they were both meant for the
purpose of making life easier and efficient, it was rather
time consuming and took away the comfort and pleasure
in focusing on savoring and enjoying my meal. I would often
find myself worrying about cleaning up before and after,
which distracted me from enjoying my meal of the day. My
meals were now equivalent to any other task of the day.
I thought to myself, “How can I reduce waste while enhancing
my eating experience.”
And so, ADDON was born.
What is ADDON?
ADDON is merging the art of cooking with design. Made using Agar,
a seaweed extract, ADDON sheets are organic, edible, and infused
with a plethora of culinary essences and colors.
The result is not only an experience that doesn’t end at the last bit,
but one that’s good for the environment. ADDON edible sheets are produced in a variety of flavors, sizes, colors and prints. Not only do
we produce edible sheets but also bio-degradable sheets. These
may be molded to create protective packagings and more. Our
bio-degradable sheets are interlaced with seed, so that when you
do choose to discard the wrapper, you’re also helping plant a tree.
Behind the name
The name ADDON as it sounds is inspired by the word “Add-on” seen
in the menu cards of restaurants.
The purpose of “Add-on’s” are to entice diners/consumers to add more items to their order. They are mostly used to enhance the flavor or to add a favorite ingredient to a dish. ADDON’s edible sheets serve a similar function–edible and also available in a variety of flavors, colors and prints. Whilst serving the purpose of efficiency and saving time
these sheets also act as add-ons in terms of flavor and texture to the food being eaten.
